Columbia University | Associate Professor/Professor in African Studies

The Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University invites applications for a tenured position at the level of associate professor or professor in Swahili studies and/or the broad East African Region (including Ethiopia). We seek a candidate with a distinguished record of scholarly inquiry in the humanities or humanistic social sciences, who will contribute to the broader intellectual community and mission of our multi-regional, trans-disciplinary department. We encourage all applicants in this area, including those with interest in history, politics, literature, visual arts and/or other cultural aspects of the Swahili-speaking people and/or the broad East African region (including Ethiopia and Somalia) and whose research draws upon primary sources in African languages.
